Phalombe District Health Office (DHO) has intensified coronavirus (Covid-19) awareness campaign among community members in the district. In an interview, Phalombe DHO spokesperson Daniel Chilomo said there was need for community members to be constantly reminded about the outbreak so that they do not relax in observing preventive measures.

“Although the district has not registered any Covid-19 case, we find no excuse to stop sensitising people to the pandemic,” said Chilomo.

He also said the DHO welcomes partners in the Covid-19 awareness campaign in the district.

“We have conceived that increasing awareness among community members will be cheaper in fighting the pandemic than attempting to provide everyone with personal protective equipment,” he said.

Earlier, the DHO expressed concerns that the district could be at higher risk of Covid-19 contagion due to its proximity to Mozambique, which as of yesterday had registered 104 cases.

Group village head Khamula in Traditional Authority Mkhumba commended the DHO’s efforts to take Covid-19 messages to people.

“My subjects had no knowledge on the precautionary measures. So, the awareness has come at the right time,” he said. Besides intensifying sensitisation, Phalombe DHO has instituted screening points in its health facilities where every outpatient is screened.
